Food Issued Baseball Cards in 2019?

Could it be true? I love oddballs. Especially if they are food issued, baseball cards. In 2016, Topps and Walmart got my hopes up that we were about to see the re-emergence of these into the hobby when they released the Marketside pizza baseball set. Unfortunately, that set was a one-off and the only food-issue that has been released since was an MLS focused Post cereal release last year(yes I collected that). However, it looks like we will be getting another food-issued baseball set in 2019!

At the Topps Industry Conference which took place February 24-26, a set which will be released in Utz snack products was announced. I borrowed the following pic from @SportsCardNews on Twitter.

All of the details I can find so far are summarized in the slide in the picture. What do you honk about this news? Will you be trying to search these out? I know I sure will be. Thanks for reading!

Hi-Story Making First Impression

I will freely admit that this is yet another 'filler' post for me. That being said, the content is definitely worth the mention(not that you all haven't already heard all about this). Trevor Story has started his career in a way that no other player has: by hitting 4 home runs in his first 3 games of his MLB career. There's quite the media frenzy around him right now, but I find it crazy that some stories are claiming that he came 'out of nowhere'. As far as most of the projections that I had read, he was quite likely to enter the season right where he is, the starting SS on the big league club. He obviously can't keep up this pace, but if he continues to play well(and stay healthy), he will have folks in Coors Field asking 'Tulowitzki who'?

This is the only card of his that I currently own, but I guess it's a pretty good one. It is the blue paper parallel from 2011 and is #/499. I may not be invested in how the Rockies' season goes, but I will be quietly pulling for Story to continue to have a great rookie season. Thanks for reading.

Yay for Opening Day

I love this time of year! After an extremely long winter, it's finally time to play baseball once again. In honor of MLB Opening Day, I've got to post some favorites from my newly acquired 2015 New York Yankees team set. The set consists of 17 cards, with most of the ones not shown being essentially carbon copies of the series one cards. There are two differences: the Topps logo on the front of these is not done in foil, and as in previous years, the card numbers on the back are NYY-1 through NYY-17. 

Across the top, we have a great rookie cup of Betances, my long awaited Jose Pirela RC(I hoped it would have been in series one), and A-Rod. Across the bottom, a horribly photoshopped Eovaldi, Drew(only shown since he wasn't in series one), and a horribly photoshopped Gregorius. Here's hoping that the first official flagship cards of those two guys sport different photos of them where they are actually wearing a Yankees uni. Overall, the set was well worth the $4.99 plus tax. 

Too bad my Yankees lost their 4th straight Opening Day game, at least I had the excitement of breaking this team set today. Good thing there are 160+ more games to go this season!
